he average cost of a Zone 2 apartment is now £697,850 according to new data from estate agent Hamptons.

While considerably lower than the overall property average for the travel zone, which is creeping closer and closer to £1m, it also pales in comparison to the average cost of a home in Zone 2 – now a whopping £1.79million.

Amid London’s sky-high house prices, rising interest rates, record inflation and skyrocketing bills, securing a home may seem out of reach for many at the moment.

Would-be home buyers may welcome news of a possible stamp duty reduction, which is expected to be announced by the Chancellor today, but property experts warn that even a temporary home buyers tax reduction without reform will further off the housing market could drive up house prices and even higher mortgage bills.

However, with interest rates expected to rise further by 2023, those thinking of buying can stick with it and look to lock in relatively low rates for as long as possible.

And there are options for savvy shoppers, if you know where to look.
