SICOMP is a core partner of the Nanofun-Poly network and is responsible for maintaining an office that administrates other issues within the network. These include questions regarding e.g. ethics, gender, health and standards. This office also conducts and coordinates the unanimous efforts to develop general guidelines and routines for "other issues" within the network. A major role of SICOMP is to bridge the gap between universities and commercial industry through applied as well as fundamental research e.g. in the field of manufacturing of nanostructured composite materials and their properties. Current research areas includes:
- Multiscale modelling and characterization of polymer composite properties
- Particle dispersion mechanisms during infusion moulding of composite materials
- Flow modelling and control of dispersions during infusion moulding of composite materials
- Polymer chemistry.
Apart from the regular research activities and staff at the institute, SICOMP is also responsible for the integration of four university employed researchers with whom (and their universities) special agreements were made facilitating their integration within the network.
