1. WP 4, 8 Polymer Chemistry
Control of the dispresion of nanoparticls in the polymer matrix by dielectric spectroscopy (DS) in our laboratory and rheological measurments in another laboratory we have access to. Investigation of the resulting final morphology and dynamics by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), DS, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermally stimulated depolarisatin currents (TSDC) techniques.
2. WP 5, 9 Polymer processing
- Dielectric spectroscopy in real time during processing of polymer nanocomposites
- Preparation, structure and physical properties of polymer-based nanocomposites (layered silicate/polymer, silica/polymer, carbon/polymer, CNT/polymer nanocomposites; thermal, mechaniocal, dielectric, electrical, water sorption/diffusion, barrier properties).
3. WP 6, 10 Nanostructure-property relationships
- Formation-structure-properties relations in nanostructured crosslinked polymers: preparation of rigid networks (polycyanurate networks) modified with flexible crosslinks (polytetramethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, polybutylene adipate) and of nanocomposites based upon them, static and dynamic structure characterisation on nanoscale, physical properties
- swelling transitions, phase transitions and responsive polymer-based systems: hydrogels on the basis of poly(hydroxyethyl acrylate) and a second hydrophobic component (blends, copolymers, interpenetrating polymer networks), porous hydrogels, modification of hydrogels with nanoparticles, investigation of the organisation of static and dynamic structure and phase transformations in responsive gels.
4. WP 7, 11 Applications
- responsive polymer materials with magnetic, (opto)electronic and biocompatible properties: preparation of hydrogels, modification with nanoparticles, characterisation of structure, dynamic properties and phase transition of polymer gels
- functional systems with membrane and barrier properties: functional systems on the basis of high performance and engineering polymers (polyimide, polystyrene, poly(phenylene oxide) modified with a second component at the nanoscale (clays, silica nanoparticles, fullerenes), characterisation of nanostructure and dynamics, investigation of barrier properties.
5. WP 13 Education and training
- extensive training periods for young scientists and exchange students for collaborating laboratories.
